Lyon Wong is the CEO and Co-Founder of Blameless, provider of an end-to-end Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) platform for modern software engineering teams. Lyon leads the strategic direction for the company, strives to deliver a superior product experience for customers, and oversees a healthy culture and work environment for all employees.
Before founding Blameless, Lyon spotted trends in other companies where teams could not easily adapt and learn together, instead pointing blame when things didn’t go as planned. Lyon identified a strong need to address the cultural tensions around blame and instead build systems to encourage productive collaboration. Through the right mindset, breaking down barriers for tribal knowledge transfer, he sets up teams for success.
Before Blameless, Lyon was a Founding General Partner at Spectrum 28, a Silicon Valley-based early-stage VC firm investing in companies that leverage data and computation to create and transform large industries.
Lyon is passionate about mentoring teams and has spent years studying how teams form, perform, and grow. Team formation and team architecture are unique insights that Lyon offers, and he helps apply specific tools and algorithms to drive performance breakthroughs systematically. Lyon has mentored teams from the Universities of Stanford, Waterloo, and Berkeley, as well as tech industry leaders at Google and Microsoft.
His ability to connect to entrepreneurs comes from being a founder of three successful companies, ranging from SMB to healthcare technology. Lyon is passionate about improving product functionality, having led several of the most critical areas of Microsoft Windows (Search and Storage). He is currently an investor with more than 20 companies, including Freenome, PlanGrid, and NextVR.
Lyon holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he co-led the Venture Capital and Greater China Business clubs. He also holds a Systems Design Engineering Degree from the University of Waterloo, with distinction, where he researched autonomous robotics, machine learning, and natural language processing. Lyon has over 30 product, design, and algorithm patents in Data Search, Storage, Visualization, Transfer, and Analytics.
